| Amendment B Defeated |
After voting on Saturday, April 25, the tallies show that 69 presbyteries were in favor of Amendment B with 88 opposed. Amendment B which would replace the current Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) constitutional requirement that church officers live in "fidelity within the covenant of marriage between a man and a woman or chastity in singleness" with different language has been defeated. Three top leaders of the PC(USA) have sent a letter to the denominations' presbyteries and congregations praising the tone of debate on potentially divisive matters and "giving thanks for a faithful and diverse church." The full text of the letter, signed by General Assembly Moderator Bruce Reyes-Chow, General Assembly Stated Clerk Gradye Parsons and General Assembly Council Executive Director Linda Valentine can be found here.
