FURMAN UNIVERSITY

"Is this not the fast that I choose: to loose the bonds of injustice...
to let the oppressed go free, and to break every yoke?
Is it not to share your bread with the hungry, and bring the homeless poor into your house...and not to hide yourself from your own kin?
 Isaiah 58:6-7

There is food enough for all, yet hunger persists worldwide and here at home.  Over 850 million people worldwide do not have access to food or cannot afford to buy it if available.  Over one in three children go hungry worldwide.  There are solutions. Participating in the Upstate CROP Hunger Walk is one.  It is a way to have fun and raise funds to alleviate hunger here at home and around the world.

"We walk because they walk" is the motto of the CROP Hunger Walk.  The "they" are the 854 million people who go to bed hungry every night.  Participating in the CROP Hunger Walk is an opportunity to learn what millions of people have to do each day just to survive - they walk; for food, water, firewood, to farm fields, find shelter, find employment, or go to school. When you walk in a CROP Hunger Walk, you walk with the world.

Please watch for more information so your church can be involved in the CROP Hunger Walk on February 28, 2010!

ACTS 16:5

"So the churches were strengthened in the faith and increased in numbers daily."

The Congregational Transformation Team of Foothills Presbytery hosted an  Initiative Luncheon for the ACTS 16:5 program on September 15 at Eastminster Church.

What is ACTS 16:5?
It is a deliberate process of transformation with a biblically-grounded approach. It supports the design of a particular church ministry appropriate to that church's given situtation and involves direct coaching, leadership development and resourcing of pastors and congregational leaders.
It is a three-year commitment from congregations and from presbytery. The presbytery must have at least 15 congregations (big and/or small) involved to participate in the program. The projected start date is late spring/early summer 2010.

What is the cost?
$1,800 per year per congregation with financial assistance as follows: First 6 months - completely covered by the Transformation Team; Next 24 months - 1/2 of cost covered by the Transformation Team; and final 6 months - 1/4 of cost covered by the Team.

What do you need to do?
Review the information (download here)with the session/leadership of the congregation and reply to Rusty Benton, of the Congregational Transformation Team before November 1, 2009.
