FaithPoint Presbyterian Church had their launch worship service on September 13 at the Brashier Middle College Charter High School in West Simpsonville. Co-Pastors Katherine Randall and Rob Klouw welcomed prospective new members, visiting friends from neighboring churches, family, and sponsoring church members as they gathered together for the first time as an emerging new church development. After worship, the congregation was invited to a barbecue lunch at the FaithPoint House across the street for a time of fellowship. After the launch service, the church will hold weekly worship every Sunday at 10:30am at the Brashier Campus just down the road from the Charter School in the Ralph S. Hendricks Building. Sunday School for all ages will be offered at 9:30.  FaithPoint welcomes everyone to be a part of this new congregation of Foothills Presbytery.

A free recital featuring pianist Elizabeth Child will begin at 3:00 pm Sunday, September 27, at First Spartanburg Presbyterian Church  in Fogartie Hall located at 393 E. Main Street. Ms. Child, a graduate of the Converse College School of Music, earned her Ph.D. in piano performance from The Juilliard School. She currently makes her home in Tryon, N.C., and has recently begun performing again after some 20 years off the professional stage. She is the great-great granddaughter of Dr. Thomas Hart Law, the first pastor of First Presbyterian Church. Refreshments will be offered after the performance. Fogartie Hall is best entered from the church parking lot paralleling Chestnut Street and using the set of doors facing the parking lot. For more information, email Holt Andrews or call him at 208-2134.

Applications are now available for the Summer Collegium, a project in support of small congregations at Virginia Theological Seminary in Alexandria, VA. Clergy (and spouses) from 25 small churches of all Christian denominations are invited to spend nine days at Virginia Seminary for encouragement, education, rest and renewal. All expenses, including travel, books, meals, lodging, child care at home and pulpit supply, are paid by a grant from the Lilly Endowment. The dates for the Summer Collegium are June 23 - July 1, 2010. Application forms can be found at www.vts.edu/education/collegium and must be postmarked by December 15, 2009, to be considered.
