On November 1 nearly 700 middle school and high school youth attended the Youth Day celebration on the Presbyterian College campus. Among the participants were 30 nominees for the  Outstanding Church Youth Leader award. These nominees were young people who had demonstrated substantial leadership in their local churches and at the presbytery level. Fourth Presbyterian Church was well represented by three of their outstanding seniors: Emily Foster, Patrick Havird, and Caroline Krcelic. Caroline who lives in Easley was selected among all of the nominees from the Synod of the South Atlantic to receive the Outstanding Church Youth Leader award. She received a $10,000 PC scholarship as part of the award. (Caroline is pictured with Bob Staton from PC.)

FTE Offers Fellowships for 2010-2011

The Fund for Theological Education has announced that it will provide $1.5 million for the 2010-2011 academic year to talented theological students who are preparing for pastoral ministry and doctoral students from underrepresented racial/ethnic groups who plan to teach religion, theology or biblical studies. FTE Ministry Fellowships  and FTE Doctoral Fellowships are being offered to help reverse the trend of declining enrollment in M.Div. programs and to support qualified racial ethnic candidates who demonstrate a commitment to teach. It is reported that one-third of North American theological schools do not have a scholar of color on their faculties, even as they serve increasingly diverse students and communities. Eligibility requirements, nomination materials and applications are available at the Fund for Theological Education.
Looking for New Advent Hymns?

advent The Presbyterian Outlook commissioned noted Presbyterian hymn writer Carolyn Winfrey Gillette to prepare four Advent carol texts to be sung to familiar, beloved Christmas tunes everyone enjoys singing. The lyrics are based upon the lectionary text for each Advent Sunday. New hymns include: God, You Alone Know What You've Planned (tune: It Came upon a Midnight Clear); When Old Zechariah Saw What God Had Done (tune: Away in a Manger); John Went out to Preach God's Word (tune: Hark the Herald Angels Sing); and Mary Gladly Told Her Cousin (tune: Once in David's Royal City). You may download each hymn for $9.95 or all four for $29.95 and then print as many copies as you need for your worship services.

Blue Christmas Worship Service

On Wednesday, December 9, at 5:30 pm the Seneca Presbyterian Church will host a different kind of Christmas service. For many people, the approaching holiday does not bring with it the joy and happiness that is talked about. Many are facing the holiday in a difficult time. The Blue Christmas Service is an attempt to reach out to people who feel such burdens. The service will have a quieter, more somber feel than a traditional Christmas gathering. Scripture, music and meditations will focus on the comfort God offers during dark times. The service will be a time for healing and recovery for those who need help getting through the holidays. If you know of anyone who might appreciate this type of service, please invite them to participate. This church is located at 115 W.S. First St. in Seneca.
