|

|
|
The
Outdoor Ministries Board is pleased to offer two confirmation retreats
for the churches of Foothills and Trinity presbyteries. The 4th annual
confirmation retreats to be held at Camp Fellowship February 22- 24 and
March 7-9 are a wonderful opportunity to explore the history, mission and
polity of our connectional church in the context of a community of youth
all on the journey of faith through confirmation!
Registration for the
retreats will open on January 15. Retistration information will be
available on the presbyteries' websites and via email from Lisa Mallory (lmallory@trinity-presbytery.org),
confirmation retreat registrar, beginning on Monday, January 14. Spaces
fill quickly for this retreat, so be prepared and tell your youth to save
the date.

PC(USA) International Mission Work
|
|

|
|
In two separate letters
recently from GA Moderator Joan Gray, the subject of missions and
missionaries was discussed. In December Rev. Gray answered a question that
she says is frequently asked at "question and answer" sessions
around the church. That question is "Why isn't our denomination
sending out missionaries anymore?"
She answers by saying,
"I always take this question as a teaching opportunity. First we do
have more than 250 missionaries in countries all over the world right
now. Second, we have requests from international partner churches for
help, and we have the people who would go as missionaries in response to
their invitations right now if we had the money to send them. Third, if
you want our denomination to send out more missionaries, then you can
make a difference by sending your money to fund worldwide mission efforts
through the PC(USA). You can even designate whether you wish to support
current missionaries or fund new mission positions.
There is no better time
than right now to give to missions, and here's how: Dig deep down and
write a generous check to the PC(USA) clearly marked "for worldwide
missions." Mail it to the Joining Hearts and Hands Campaign,
Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), Individual Remittance Processing, P.O. Box
6437000, Pittsburgh, PA 15264, and please indicate account number
MI900100 on your check."
Secondly, in a letter
received this week, the GA Moderator wrote:
Hi Friends!
Please join me in prayer for an important meeting that will happen next
week. At the last General Assembly the Assembly instructed the Moderator
to call a consultation on the subject of the PC(USA) international
mission work. This consultation is about helping us really get hold of
what is happening in international mission among our partners and all the
mission groups now operating in any kind of relationship to the PC(USA).
This meeting taking place in Dallas Texas will include Louisville staff
as well as representatives from partner churches overseas,
representatives from various validated mission organizations, immigrant
ministry pastors, various mission network representatives, Presbyterian
Women, mission professors from PC(USA) seminaries, and others.
Please hold this meeting
in prayer as we are in a season of amazing opportunity for mission around
the world and also immense challenge as we move into a mission climate
that is very different in many ways than before. Please pray that we will
be open to all God wants to give us in these meetings and in our efforts
to work alongside our Lord all over the world.
Grace and peace,
Joan S. Gray
