World Vision's 30 Hour Famine
|
|

|
|
Pictured are Madison
Yoder, Logan Dowd, Caitlyn Whitcomb and Justina Esopia preparing their
homeless cardboard village. The Fountain Inn Presbyterian Church youth
group, along with Associate Pastor Julie Meredith, built homes out of
cardboard assembling a village on the lawn of their Main Street church.
The purpose of
constructing this village was to create awareness of world hunger, where
forty children under the age of five worldwide die from hunger every two
minutes. This was done in conjunction with "World Vision's 30-Hour
Famine." These young people slept in their poverty village and did
not eat for 30 hours. Their hope was to grab the curiosity and awareness
of the community as they passed the church on Main Street. A mission
breakfast was held the morning after the famine and donations were accepted
for World Vision, as well as for supporting the church's mission trips.
World Vision is a
Christian humanitarian organization dedicated to working with children,
families and their communities worldwide to reach their potential by
tackling the causes of poverty and injustice. The 30- hour famine is an
international youth movement to fight hunger, while at the same time
bringing the youth group closer together.
