Chandler Johnson, 12-year old son of the Rev. Don and Rene Johnson has been chosen to sing with the Maryland State Boychoir. Some of you may remember Don when he was a CLP at Mattoon Presbyterian Church in Greenville and a student at Johnson C. Smith Seminary. Upon completion of seminary Don accepted a call to the Lochearn Presbyterian Church in Baltimore, Md.

The Maryland State Boy Tour Choir, numbering 40 boys, will be traveling to England, Wales, Scotland, France and Belgium. They will present concerts in the great cathedrals, churches and concert halls of these countries, including St. Giles Cathedral in Edinburgh, Scotland. The boys will have a wonderful opportunity to tour and see many fascinating sights in these countries.

Donations for the support of this choir can be made to: The Maryland State Boychoir, Touring Fund, 8925 O. Harford Rd., Baltimore, MD 21234. All contributions are tax deductible. Please mark any gift you make "for Chandler Johnson."

A Good Time Was Had By All

Be sure to watch for next week's E-Newsletter for pictures of the Senior Superlative Lunch which was held May 11. Twenty-two churches honored a special senior member in their church, and over 180 people enjoyed the lunch and celebration. A good time, indeed, was enjoyed by all in attendance.

Montreat Conference Addresses Future of PC(USA)

The July 5-8 conference at Montreat entitled "The Hope of the Church: Celebrating Common Ground," will be a timely and important consultation about the future of the denomination. The conference will be an unprecedented consultation with 15 General Assembly moderators and 11 Presbyterian seminary presidents, as well as pastors, elders, deacons, seminarians and concerned lay people from across the nation.

Four key questions will be addressed:
(1)How is the Church called to transform itself?
(2)How is the Church called to transform the world?
    (3) What is God calling the next generation of pastors to do to faithfully serve the church in the future?
    (4) What are the oppotunities for ministering to a diverse and multicultural 21st century church?

When asked why he chose to participate in the conference, Rick Ufford-Chase, moderator of the current General Assembly, replied simply: "This is a critical time for the church to gather together our best wisdom about who we have been in the past and to propel all of us into a new way of 'being church' in the future."

"What a once-in-a-lifetime experience!" stated the Rev. Susan Andrews. The conference format will include worship, panel presentations, and table discussions that will provide opportunities for informal dialogue with conference leaders.

"Healthy debate has always been a part of being Presbyterian," agreed George F. Barber, III, president of Montreat Conference Center. "This conference, however, is an opportunity for our denomination to take the conversation to the next level, to set the tone for respectful dialogue and visionary discernment through the PC(USA). The environment at Montreat Conference Center will nurture that process."
