Anderson member & Director of Habitat for Humanity, Dick Christopher,
member of Central Church, and others.)
A dedication ceremony was held on Sunday, October 21, for two Habitat for
Humanity homes built by six PC (USA) congregations in Anderson. Churches
involved were Central, First, Midway, North Anderson, Roberts, and Salem.
Along with hundreds of hours of labor, congregations provided prayers,
meals, some landscaping, window blinds, and a whole lot of love. The six
PC(USA) Habitat Partners raised more than $65,000 for this project. In
addition, the youth of First Presbyterian collected food for the pantries
of both homes.
Denise Washington and her
children will soon move into their new home. Cookie Singleton and her
children are preparing to move into the other home shortly. Their home is
wheelchair accessible. Habitat has acquired additional lots adjacent to
the two Presbyterian Partnership homes just dedicated.

Recent Happenings in Foothills Presbytery
|
|

|
|
On Friday evening,
September 28, four visitors from Ghana, West Africa, arrived in the
Atlanta airport and were greeted warmly by members of the Foothills
Presbytery Ghana Partnership Committee. These four people (shown in
photo above with George Wilkes) were the Rev. Alexander Adu-Sekyere,
the Rev. Emmanuel Osafo-Boateng, Mrs. Mary Kissi, and the Rev. Seth Nana
Mintah. The group traveled back to the Greenville area where they were
welcomed officially to the presbytery at a dinner on Saturday evening at
Eastminster Presbyterian Church.
Over the next two weeks
Alex, Emmanuel, Mary and Seth visited in different homes, schools, and
churches in the presbytery. They spoke to congregations and to small
groups and shared their ministry with everyone they met. Mary attended
the Mission Challenge '07 Conference in Louisville with members of the
Ghana Partnership Committee. The group had a closing dinner (barbecue and
all the trimmings) at the presbytery office on Sunday afternoon with
gifts for the guests and words of continued support for the partnership
exchanged by those in attendance. The four left early Monday morning to
catch a flight in Atlanta for a return trip home. As always, the visit
was an enjoyable experience for everyone and was a positive strengthening
of this long-standing partnership between Foothills Presbytery and Kwahu
Presbytery.
The Foothills
Presbyterian Women celebrated their Fall Spiritual Gathering at the Greer
First Presbyterian Church on Saturday, October 13. Sara Juengst lead the
morning session, on "Oh, God, How can I Pray?" Mary
Kissi from Ghana was a guest at this gathering also and brought greetings
from the Presbyterian Women in Ghana. Other guests at the PW celebration
were Nancy Lindeman from Thornwell, Gary Reynolds from Johnson C. Smith,
visitors from 10,000 Villages and InDwellings, and Ron Kenyon from
SCLEAP. Foothills Presbytery has 67 churches and nearly all churches have
active groups of Presbyterian Women. Several ladies from Foothills will
be attending the Synod Gathering at Epworth by the Sea this weekend,
October 26-28.
Presbyterian Women also
would like to encourage churches to donate needed items to Mission Haven
at Columbia Seminary. They are in need of baby items, children's
clothing, winter coats for teenagers, and clothes for seminary students
when they preach and interview for jobs. Clothing should be clean and in
good repair. As always, they can use sheets, blankets, towels, etc.
