The
Hispanic Ministry, in coordination with the American Red Cross, will
sponsor its second Hispanic Health Fair at John Calvin Presbyterian
Church on Saturday, March 24, from 9:00 to 3:00. The Ministry has
recruited several organizations and individuals to participate in the
Fair, but they are still looking for more volunteers. Additional
physicians (particularly, a pediatrician) and Spanish- speaking
volunteers who can help with interpreting and/or giving directions are
needed, along with volunteers to help set up on Friday evening and clean
up on Saturday evening. If you are interested in being a part of this
ministry by offering your services in this outreach event, please contact
Jan Culpepper at 415- 1160 or jrculpepper@msn.com.
The Hispanic Ministry is an outreach ministry of Foothills Presbytery

Gulf Coast
Relief Efforts
|
|

|
|
On
Sunday, March 25, about thirty people from Foothills Presbytery will be
traveling to New Orleans to be a part of the continuing relief effort
there. These volunteers are part of a mission team from churches throughout
the presbytery. Most of the workers will be staying for one week with a
few staying over for a longer period. We are grateful to all of the
people who were able to participate in this relief effort and ask that
you keep them in your prayers.
Presbyterian Disaster Assistance has received numerous
requests for youth to be involved in the gulf coast hurricane response. A
special program has been designed especially for youth (ages 16-18) to
participate in the Presbyterian Volunteer Village experience during the
period June 17-30 and July 1-7 with the Orange Grove Presbyterian
Volunteer Village. Additional information can be found at the link given
below.

speaker is the Rev. Stephen (Gutty) Gutridge. Mr. Gutridge has worked in
parish ministry for 25 years including 11 years in interim work. He is
the former Associate Director for Congregational Ministries with
Presbyterians for Renewal. Much of his work is in the widely popular Wee

Ray Thomas Memorial Presbyterian Church in Marietta, Georgia, and is a
talented musician and worship leader.
Six workshops are
offered, including (1) Family Systems Theory for Church Families, (2)
Transitions in Trying Times, (3) Ways of Looking at and Organizing Small
Churches, (4) Reaching out in Love, (5) Self-Care in a Loving Way, and
(6) Being an Indian and not a Chief. The cost of the conference runs from
$200 - $285 for people who want lodging and $60 for commuters. To
register, contact Alex Stevens at 770- 786-8301 or alexstevens@bellsouth.net.
The deadline for registrations is April 2.
The Association of
Smaller Congregations was organized in April 1987 by a group of
visionaries led by the Rev. Foster Edwards, a Presbyterian minister in
the Presbytery of Greater Atlanta. This group sought to create an
organization which would: * encourage and suppport smaller congregations,
*promote awareness of the unique strengths and needs of smaller congregations,
*provide opportunities for fellowship, education, creative thinking and
sharing among smaller congregations, and *facilitate communication among
churches, presbyteries, and higher governing bodies.
