2 Cents-a-Meal

hungerBy this time, most churches should have received their hunger packet which contains material for the 2- Cents-a-Meal program that was approved by Foothills Presbytery.

What is 2 cents-a- meal?
An offering collected at every meal to help feed the hungry. Each family in the church should prepare a container and place coins in the container at mealtime. Mission committees can decide how to collect the total offering, possibly on a Sunday when children can be involved in this project.

How are the funds distributed?
The Session determines where the funds will be distributed. You are encouraged to keep 50% to distribute locally and to send 50% to presbytery. The presbytery Hunger Task Force will balance distribution with national and international projects. You are asked to notify the Hunger Task Force of your total amount collected.

Do we collect only pennies?
Other coins and bills are welcome and will be put to good use. It is hoped that every church will begin this program as soon as possible and in doing this remember Christ's call to feed the hungry.

Christmas International House

CIH

Christmas International House is a Christian ministry designed to offer hospitality to students during the Christmas Holidays. Through the hospitality of churches and civic groups, they witness to the reality that, behind diverse manners of dress, religious affiliations and political ideologies, everyone stands together as one human family. This is a peacemaking program. It gives students an opportunity to visit in an American home and to become acquainted with different areas of the country. It gives them a chance to express their feelings about the United States and find explanations for cultural differences they have observed. Students and hosts develop friendships and learn how to exchange ideas and develop relationships with people who come from countries with different ideologies.

Christmas International House would like for you to help spread the word about this program. World famous artist Jack Haunty has designed a Christmas card especially for CIH. These cards may be purchased directly from the web site given below. Proceeds from the sale of these cards will be used to defray program expenses and keep student registration fees to a minimum.

Eastminster Presbyterian Church in Simpsonville will be participating in Christmas International House this year. If you are interested in your congregation exploring this wonderful ministry of hospitality, feel free to call David Taylor, one of the co-pastors at Eastminster, at 284-0190.
